Fried Haddock and Shrimp
- 1
Prepare the Breading
In a large bowl, combine flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, black pepper, and paprika. Mix well.
- 2
- 3
Heat the Oil
In a large, deep skillet or fryer, heat vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
- 4
Batter the Fish and Shrimp
Dip each haddock fillet and shrimp into the wet mixture, allowing excess to drip off, then coat thoroughly in the dry breading mixture.
- 5
Fry the Fish and Shrimp
Carefully place the battered haddock and shrimp into the hot oil. Fry for 3-4 minutes on each side until golden brown and cooked through. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
Coleslaw
- 6
Mix the Vegetables
In a large bowl, combine shredded cabbage and carrots.
- 7
Prepare the Dressing
In a separate bowl, mix mayonnaise, apple cider vinegar, sugar, salt, and black pepper until smooth.
- 8
Combine
Pour the dressing over the cabbage and carrots. Mix well until all vegetables are coated. Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes before serving.
Maine Fries
- 9
Prepare the Potatoes
Wash and peel the russet potatoes. Cut them into even-sized fries, about 1/4 to 1/2 inch thick.
- 10
Heat the Oil
In a large pot or deep fryer, heat vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C).
- 11
Fry the Fries
Carefully add the cut fries to the hot oil in batches, ensuring not to overcrowd the pot. Fry for 5-7 minutes until golden brown and crispy. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
- 12
Season
Sprinkle with salt to taste while the fries are still hot.
Dipping Sauce
- 13
Serve
Serve tartar sauce and cocktail sauce on the side for dipping.
