Southern Fried Oysters Ingredients

Method

Southern Fried Oysters Directions

  1. 1

    Prepare Pickled Tomatoes

Sprinkle the sliced green tomatoes with pickling salt and let them sit for about 30 minutes to draw out moisture. Rinse and pat dry.

  2. 2

    Prepare Breading Station

Set up a breading station with three bowls: one with flour, one with beaten eggs mixed with milk, and one with cornmeal mixed with black pepper and salt.

  3. 3

    Bread the Oysters

Dip each oyster in the flour, then the egg mixture, and finally coat them with cornmeal. Set aside on a plate.

  4. 4

    Fry the Oysters

In a deep skillet or fryer, heat vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C). Fry the breaded oysters in batches until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side. Remove and drain on paper towels.

  5. 5

    Fry the Pickled Tomatoes

Using the same oil, fry the pickled green tomatoes until crispy and golden, about 2-3 minutes per side. Drain on paper towels.

  6. 6

    Serve

Arrange fried oysters and pickled tomatoes on a serving platter. Drizzle Alabama White BBQ sauce over the top and garnish with sesame seeds. Serve immediately.
