Clam Chowder Ingredients

Method

Cooking Directions

  1. 1

    Prepare the Clams

In a large pot, bring water to a boil. Add clams and cook until they open, about 5-7 minutes. Remove clams from water, reserving clam juice, and chop the clams into small pieces.

  2. 2

    Cook the Bacon

In the same pot, cook the bacon over medium heat until crispy. Remove the bacon and set aside, leaving the rendered fat in the pot.

  3. 3

    Sauté Vegetables

Add butter to the pot and melt. Add chopped onion and celery, and sauté until soft, about 5 minutes.

  4. 4

    Add Potatoes and Liquids

Dice potatoes and add to the pot along with the reserved clam juice and enough water to cover the potatoes. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer until potatoes are tender, about 15 minutes.

  5. 5

    Combine and Finish

Stir in chopped clams, heavy cream, thyme, and season with black pepper and salt. Heat through for about 5 minutes. Serve hot, garnished with crumbled bacon.
