Method

Preparation Steps

  1. 1

    Prepare Sushi Rice

Rinse the sushi rice under cold water until the water runs clear. Combine the rice and water in a rice cooker and cook according to the manufacturer's instructions. Once cooked, let it sit for 10 minutes without lifting the lid.

  2. 2

    Season Rice

In a small bowl, mix rice vinegar, sugar, and salt until dissolved. Gently fold this mixture into the cooked rice using a spatula and let it cool to room temperature.

  3. 3

    Prepare Fillings

Slice the avocado and cucumber into thin strips. If using whole crab meat, shred it into smaller pieces.

  4. 4

    Assemble the Rolls

Place a bamboo sushi mat on a flat surface and lay one sheet of nori on top, shiny side down. With wet hands, spread a thin layer of sushi rice over the nori, leaving a small border at the top. In the center, place a few strips of crab, avocado, and cucumber.

  5. 5

    Roll the Sushi

Using the sushi mat, lift the edge closest to you and start rolling it away from you, applying gentle pressure to create a tight roll. Once you reach the exposed edge of the nori, wet it with a little water to seal the roll. Repeat with the remaining nori sheets.

  6. 6

    Slice and Serve

Using a sharp knife, slice each roll into 6 pieces. Serve with soy sauce, wasabi, and pickled ginger on the side.
