Base Ingredients

Method

Preparation of Yogurt

  1. 1

    Heat the Milk

In a saucepan, heat the milk over medium heat until it reaches about 180°F (82°C). Stir occasionally to prevent scorching.

  2. 2

    Cool the Milk

Once heated, remove the saucepan from the heat and let the milk cool to about 110°F (43°C). You can use a kitchen thermometer to check the temperature.

  3. 3

    Add Yogurt Starter

In a small bowl, mix the plain yogurt with a little bit of the cooled milk to create a smooth paste. Then, whisk this mixture back into the cooled milk in the saucepan.

  4. 4

    Incubate the Yogurt

Cover the saucepan with a lid or a kitchen towel and place it in a warm environment (like an oven with the light on or a yogurt maker) for 6 to 12 hours, depending on how tangy you want your yogurt. The longer it incubates, the tangier it will be.

  5. 5

    Check the Yogurt

After the incubation period, check the yogurt. It should be thickened and have a tangy flavor. If it's not thick enough, let it sit for a few more hours.

  6. 6

    Chill the Yogurt

Once done, transfer the yogurt to a container and refrigerate for at least 2 hours before serving.

Flavoring (optional)

  1. 7

    Add Sweetener and Flavor

Once the yogurt is chilled, you can mix in honey and vanilla extract if desired for added sweetness and flavor.

  2. 8

    Top with Fruits

Serve the yogurt in bowls and top with fresh fruits of your choice for additional flavor and nutrition.
