Method

Brewing Process

  1. 1

    Mashing

Heat 5 gallons of water to 165°F (74°C) and add the pale malt and crystal malt. Hold the temperature for 60 minutes.

  2. 2

    Sparging

After mashing, sparge the grains with enough water to collect 6.5 gallons of wort.

  3. 3

    Boiling

Bring the wort to a boil and add Citra hops. Boil for 60 minutes, adding Simcoe hops in the last 15 minutes and orange zest in the last 5 minutes.

  4. 4

    Cooling

Cool the wort quickly to 70°F (21°C) using a wort chiller.

  5. 5

    Fermentation

Transfer the cooled wort to a fermenter, pitch the yeast, and seal with an airlock. Ferment at around 68°F (20°C) for 1-2 weeks.

  6. 6

    Bottling

After fermentation is complete, dissolve priming sugar in a small amount of water and add to the beer before bottling. Bottle the beer and let it carbonate for another 1-2 weeks.

  7. 7

    Enjoy

Chill your Lil Orange Alien, pour into a glass, and enjoy the citrusy goodness!
