Cooking Instructions
Cook the Ziti
In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil. Add the ziti and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
Prepare the Sauce
In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic, and sauté until the onion is translucent. Add the ground beef or sausage, cooking until browned. Drain excess fat.
Combine Ingredients
Stir in the marinara sauce, ricotta cheese, chopped basil, salt, and pepper into the skillet. Let simmer for about 5 minutes.
Mix with Pasta
Add the cooked ziti to the skillet and toss to combine all ingredients thoroughly.
Layer and Bake
In a greased baking dish, layer half of the ziti mixture. Sprinkle half of the mozzarella and Parmesan cheeses on top. Add the remaining ziti mixture, and top with the remaining cheeses.
Bake
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
Serve
Remove from oven and let it cool for a few minutes before serving. Garnish with additional basil if desired.
