Calzone Dough
Method
Calzone Preparation
- 1
Make the Dough
In a large bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy. Stir in olive oil and salt. Gradually add flour, mixing until a dough forms. Knead on a floured surface for about 8-10 minutes until smooth. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- 2
Prepare the Filling
While the dough is rising, prepare the filling. In a bowl, combine cooked spaghetti, marinara sauce, and meatballs. Mix well and set aside.
- 3
Assemble the Calzone
Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C). Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into two equal portions. Roll out each portion into a 10-inch circle. Spoon half of the spaghetti and meatball mixture onto one half of each circle, leaving a border. Sprinkle with mozzarella cheese, fold the dough over, and crimp the edges to seal.
- 4
Bake
Place the calzones on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Optionally, brush the tops with olive oil and sprinkle with Italian seasoning. Bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
- 5
Serve
Let cool for a few minutes before slicing. Serve with extra marinara sauce for dipping.
