Method

Cooking Pasta

  1. 1

    Boil Water

In a large pot, bring 4 quarts of water to a boil. Add 1 tablespoon of salt to the water.

  2. 2

    Cook Rigatoni

Once the water is boiling, add the rigatoni pasta. Cook for about 10-12 minutes or until al dente, stirring occasionally.

  3. 3

    Drain Pasta

Once cooked, drain the rigatoni in a colander and set aside.

Making Meat Sauce

  1. 4

    Heat Olive Oil

In a large skillet over medium heat, add 2 tablespoons of olive oil and heat until shimmering.

  2. 5

    Cook Sausage

Add the Italian sausage links to the skillet. Cook for about 5-7 minutes, turning occasionally, until browned on all sides.

  3. 6

    Add Onion and Garlic

Remove the sausage from the skillet and set aside. In the same skillet, add the chopped onion and minced garlic. Sauté for 3-4 minutes until the onion is translucent.

  4. 7

    Prepare Sauce

Add the canned crushed tomatoes, dried oregano, dried basil, salt, and black pepper to the skillet. Stir well to combine.

  5. 8

    Simmer

Bring the sauce to a simmer and then reduce the heat to low. Let it simmer for about 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.

  6. 9

    Finish Sauce

Slice the cooked sausage and add it back to the sauce. Stir to combine and let it cook for an additional 5 minutes.

Combining Ingredients

  1. 10

    Mix Pasta and Sauce

Add the drained rigatoni to the skillet with the meat sauce. Toss gently to coat the pasta evenly.

  2. 11

    Serve

Serve the rigatoni with the meat sauce hot, topped with grated Parmesan cheese.
