Method

Pasta Preparation

  1. 1

    Boil the Lasagna Noodles

In a large pot of salted boiling water, cook the lasagna noodles according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

Meat Sauce Preparation

  1. 2

    Cook the Ground Beef

In a large skillet over medium heat, add the ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spoon, about 5-7 minutes.

  2. 3

    Add Onion and Garlic

Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the skillet. Sauté until the onion is translucent, about 3-4 minutes.

  3. 4

    Prepare the Sauce

Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Bring to a simmer and let cook for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Cheese Mixture Preparation

  1. 5

    Combine Cheese Ingredients

In a mixing bowl, combine the ricotta cheese, egg, grated Parmesan cheese, and salt. Mix until well combined.

Lasagna Assembly

  1. 6

    Layer the Lasagna

In a 9x13 inch baking dish, spread a thin layer of meat sauce on the bottom. Place 3 lasagna noodles over the sauce, followed by half of the cheese mixture, half of the remaining meat sauce, and a third of the mozzarella cheese. Repeat the layers, finishing with a layer of noodles, the remaining meat sauce, and the rest of the mozzarella cheese on top.

  2. 7

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).

  3. 8

    Bake the Lasagna

Cover the baking dish with foil and bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden.

  4. 9

    Let it Rest

Remove from the oven and let the lasagna rest for 10-15 minutes before slicing. Garnish with fresh basil leaves if desired.
