Dough Ingredients

Method

Dough Preparation

  1. 1

    Activate the Yeast

In a small bowl, combine warm water (about 110°F), sugar, and active dry yeast. Stir gently and let sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.

  2. 2

    Mix the Dough

In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour and salt. Make a well in the center and pour in the yeast mixture along with the olive oil. Mix until a dough forms.

  3. 3

    Knead the Dough

Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic. If the dough is sticky, add a little more flour as needed.

  4. 4

    Let the Dough Rise

Place the kneaded dough into a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.

Shaping and Baking

  1. 5

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

  2. 6

    Shape the Breadsticks

Once the dough has risen, punch it down and turn it out onto a floured surface. Divide the dough into 8 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a long, thin stick (about 8 inches long) and place them on the prepared baking sheet.

  3. 7

    Prepare the Topping

In a small bowl, mix together the melted butter, garlic powder, and dried Italian herbs. Brush this mixture over the shaped breadsticks.

  4. 8

    Add Parmesan

Sprinkle the grated Parmesan cheese over the breadsticks.

  5. 9

    Bake

Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes or until the breadsticks are golden brown.

  6. 10

    Cool and Serve

Remove the breadsticks from the oven, let them cool slightly, and serve warm.
