Prepare the Coffee Mixture
In a shallow bowl, combine the cooled brewed coffee with the dark rum or coffee liqueur if using. Set aside.

Make the Mascarpone Mixture
In a mixing bowl, beat the heavy cream with the granulated sugar and vanilla extract until soft peaks form. Gently fold in the mascarpone cheese until fully combined and smooth.

Assemble the Tiramisu
Dip each ladyfinger briefly into the coffee mixture (do not soak) and layer them in a rectangular dish. Spread half of the mascarpone mixture over the first layer of ladyfingers. Repeat with another layer of dipped ladyfingers followed by the remaining mascarpone mixture.

Chill and Serve
Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight. Before serving, dust the top with cocoa powder.
