Prepare the Chicken Cutlet or Meatballs
If using chicken cutlets, pound them to even thickness. Set up a breading station with flour, beaten eggs, and bread crumbs. Dredge each cutlet in flour, dip in egg, and coat with bread crumbs. If using meatballs, roll ground meat into balls and coat with breadcrumbs.

Prepare the Ricotta Mixture
In a bowl, mix ricotta cheese with salt, black pepper, and half of the fresh basil leaves until well combined.

Assemble the Dish
In a baking dish, spread half of the red sauce on the bottom. Place the cooked chicken cutlets or meatballs on top of the sauce. Spread the ricotta mixture over the meat, then top with the remaining red sauce and sprinkle with mozzarella cheese.

Bake
Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and bake the assembled dish for 20-25 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.

Garnish and Serve
Remove from the oven and garnish with remaining fresh basil before serving.
