Method
Calzone Directions
- 1
Prepare the Dough
Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C). If using store-bought dough, let it come to room temperature. If making from scratch, prepare your pizza dough accordingly.
- 2
Mix the Filling
In a mixing bowl, combine ricotta cheese, mozzarella cheese, parmesan cheese, homemade marinara sauce, olive oil, Italian seasoning, salt, and black pepper. Mix well until combined.
- 3
Shape the Calzone
On a floured surface, roll out the pizza dough into a large circle (about 12 inches in diameter). Cut the circle in half to create two semicircles. Place half of the filling on one half of each semicircle, leaving a border around the edges.
- 4
Seal the Calzone
Fold the other half of the dough over the filling and pinch the edges to seal. You can crimp the edges with a fork for a decorative touch.
- 5
Bake the Calzone
Transfer the calzones to a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Brush the tops with olive oil and make a few small slits on top to allow steam to escape. Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown.
- 6
Serve
Remove from the oven and let cool for a few minutes. Slice and serve with extra marinara sauce on the side for dipping.
