Prepare the Pork
Trim excess fat from the pork shoulder and cut into large chunks.

Mix the Rub
In a small bowl, combine brown sugar, paprika, cumin, salt, and black pepper. Rub this mixture evenly over the pork pieces.

Sauté Vegetables
In a large skillet over medium heat, sauté chopped onions and minced garlic until softened.

Cook the Pork
Place the pork in a slow cooker and add the sautéed onions, garlic, water, BBQ sauce, and apple cider vinegar. Stir to combine.

Slow Cook
Cover and cook on low for 8 hours or until the pork is tender and easily shredded.

Shred the Pork
Once cooked, remove the pork from the slow cooker and shred it with two forks.

Mix with Sauce
Return the shredded pork to the slow cooker and mix it with the remaining sauce. Cook for an additional 30 minutes.

Serve
Serve the pulled pork on buns, with additional BBQ sauce if desired.
