Method

Cake Preparation

  1. 1

    Preheat Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9x13 inch baking pan.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt.

  3. 3

    Beat Eggs and Sugar

In another bowl, beat the eggs and granulated sugar with an electric mixer on high speed until the mixture is thick and pale, about 5-7 minutes.

  4. 4

    Combine Mixtures

Add the vanilla extract and milk to the egg mixture, then gently fold in the dry ingredients until just combined.

  5. 5

    Bake the Cake

Pour the batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

  6. 6

    Cool the Cake

Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.

Milk Mixture Preparation

  1. 7

    Combine the Milks

In a bowl, whisk together the sweetened condensed milk, evaporated milk, and whole milk until well combined.

  2. 8

    Soak the Cake

Once the cake has cooled, poke holes all over the top with a fork or skewer. Slowly pour the milk mixture over the cake, allowing it to soak in.

Meringue Preparation

  1. 9

    Beat Egg Whites

In a clean bowl, beat the egg whites on medium-high speed until soft peaks form.

  2. 10

    Add Sugar

Gradually add the granulated sugar while continuing to beat, until stiff peaks form and the mixture is glossy.

  3. 11

    Finish the Meringue

Add the vanilla extract and mix until fully incorporated.

  4. 12

    Top the Cake

Spread the meringue on top of the soaked cake, creating peaks with a spatula. You can use a kitchen torch to lightly brown the meringue if desired.
