Fried Plantains

Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Peel the Plantains

Cut off both ends of the ripe plantains. Make a shallow slit along the length of each plantain, being careful not to cut too deep. Use your fingers to gently peel off the skin.

  2. 2

    Slice the Plantains

Cut the peeled plantains diagonally into thick slices, about 1 inch in width.

Frying

  1. 3

    Heat the Oil

In a large skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat until it reaches about 350°F (175°C).

  2. 4

    Fry the Plantains

Carefully add the sliced plantains to the hot oil in batches, making sure not to overcrowd the pan. Fry for about 3-4 minutes on each side, or until they are golden brown and caramelized.

  3. 5

    Drain Excess Oil

Use a slotted spoon to remove the fried plantains from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain any excess oil.

  4. 6

    Season with Salt

Sprinkle the fried plantains with salt while they are still warm, adjusting to taste.
