Dough

For frying

Method

Dough Preparation

  1. 1

    Mix the Dough Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour and salt. Cut in the unsalted butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Add the egg and water, mixing until a dough forms.

  2. 2

    Knead the Dough

Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 5 minutes until smooth. Wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.

Filling Preparation

  1. 3

    Cook the Filling

In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion, garlic, and green bell pepper. Sauté until the onions are translucent.

  2. 4

    Add Meat and Seasonings

Add the ground beef or chicken to the skillet. Cook until browned, breaking it apart with a wooden spoon. Stir in the tomato sauce, cumin, paprika, salt, and black pepper. Cook for another 5 minutes.

  3. 5

    Add Additional Ingredients

Remove from heat and mix in the chopped hard-boiled eggs and green olives. Allow the filling to cool.

Assembly and Cooking

  1. 6

    Roll Out the Dough

After the dough has chilled, roll it out on a floured surface to about 1/8 inch thickness. Cut out circles using a 4-inch round cutter.

  2. 7

    Fill the Empanadas

Place a tablespoon of filling in the center of each dough circle. Fold the dough over to create a half-moon shape and press the edges to seal. You can crimp the edges with a fork for a decorative touch.

  3. 8

    Fry the Empanadas

In a deep frying pan, heat vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Fry the empanadas in batches until golden brown, about 3-4 minutes per side. Drain on paper towels.

  4. 9

    Serve

Serve hot with your choice of dipping sauce or salsa.
