2. Mix Dry Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
3. Add Wet Ingredients
Add eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla to the dry ingredients. Beat with an electric mixer on medium speed for 2 minutes.
4. Add Boiling Water
Stir in boiling water (the batter will be thin). Pour evenly into the prepared pans.
5. Bake the Cakes
Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then remove from pans to cool completely on a wire rack.
6. Prepare Frosting
While the cakes are cooling, prepare the chocolate frosting (see below for frosting recipe).
7. Frost the Cake
Once the cakes are completely cool, place one layer on a serving plate, spread frosting on top, then add the second layer and frost the top and sides.
