Cast Iron Cornbread Ingredients

Method

Directions for Cast Iron Cornbread

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) and place a 10-inch cast iron skillet in the oven to heat.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large bowl, whisk together the cornmeal, flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar until well combined.

  3. 3

    Combine Wet Ingredients

In another bowl, whisk together the milk, eggs, melted butter, and honey until smooth.

  4. 4

    Combine Mixtures

Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Do not overmix.

  5. 5

    Prepare Cast Iron Skillet

Carefully remove the hot skillet from the oven and add a little butter to coat the bottom.

  6. 6

    Bake the Cornbread

Pour the cornbread batter into the hot skillet and spread evenly. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

  7. 7

    Serve

Let the cornbread cool for a few minutes before slicing. Serve warm with honey butter and strawberry jam.
