Tuna Tartare

Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Tuna

Using a sharp knife, finely dice the fresh sushi-grade tuna into small cubes, roughly 1/2 inch in size. Place the diced tuna in a medium mixing bowl.

  2. 2

    Prepare the Avocado

Cut the ripe avocado in half, remove the pit, and scoop the flesh out with a spoon. Dice the avocado into similar-sized cubes as the tuna. Add to the mixing bowl with the tuna.

  3. 3

    Make the Dressing

In a small bowl, whisk together the sesame oil, soy sauce, lime juice, salt, and black pepper until well combined.

  4. 4

    Combine Ingredients

Pour the dressing over the diced tuna and avocado. Gently fold the ingredients together with a spatula to ensure the tuna and avocado are well coated without mashing the avocado.

  5. 5

Add Green Onions and Sesame Seeds

Finely chop the green onions and add them to the bowl along with the sesame seeds. Gently mix again to combine all ingredients.

Serving

  1. 6

    Plate the Tartare

Using a ring mold or by hand, carefully plate the tuna tartare mixture on a serving plate. You can also serve it in a small bowl or on a bed of lettuce for presentation.

  2. 7

    Garnish

Garnish with additional sesame seeds and thinly sliced green onions on top. Serve immediately with tortilla chips, crackers, or cucumber slices.
