Method
Preparation
- 1
Rinse the Rice
In a fine-mesh strainer, rinse the basmati rice under cold running water until the water runs clear. This removes excess starch and prevents the rice from becoming sticky.
- 2
Soak the Saffron
In a small bowl, soak the saffron threads in 2 tablespoons of hot water. Allow them to steep for about 10 minutes to release their color and flavor.
Cooking
- 3
Cook the Rice
In a medium saucepan, combine the rinsed basmati rice, 2 cups of water, and 1 teaspoon of salt. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat.
- 4
Add Saffron
Once the water is boiling, reduce the heat to low, cover the saucepan, and simmer for 15 minutes. After 15 minutes, add the saffron water (including the threads) to the rice.
