Method

Cake Directions

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large bowl, sift together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

  3. 3

    Combine Wet Ingredients

In another bowl, beat the eggs, then add the milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract. Mix until combined.

  4. 4

    Combine Mixtures

Gradually add the wet mixture to the dry mixture, mixing until just combined.

  5. 5

    Add Boiling Water

Slowly stir in the boiling water until the batter is smooth. The batter will be thin.

  6. 6

    Bake the Cakes

Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cake pans. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

  7. 7

    Cool the Cakes

Once baked, allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Frosting Directions

  1. 8

    Prepare the Frosting

In a medium bowl, combine the cocoa powder and softened butter. Beat with an electric mixer until well combined.

  2. 9

    Add Sugar and Milk

Gradually add the powdered sugar and milk to the cocoa mixture, beating until smooth and creamy.

  3. 10

    Add Vanilla

Mix in the vanilla extract to the frosting and beat until fully incorporated.

  4. 11

    Frost the Cake

Once the cakes are completely cool, place one layer on a serving plate, spread frosting on top, place the second layer on top, and frost the top and sides of the cake.
