Base Ingredients

Sweetener & Flavoring

Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Hibiscus Tea

In a medium saucepan, combine 4 cups of water and 1 cup of dried hibiscus flowers. Bring the mixture to a boil over medium-high heat.

  2. 2

    Simmer and Steep

Once boiling, reduce the heat to low and let it simmer for about 15 minutes. This allows the flavors and color to infuse into the water.

  3. 3

    Strain the Tea

After simmering, remove the saucepan from heat and strain the mixture through a fine mesh sieve or cheesecloth into a large bowl or pitcher. Discard the hibiscus flowers.

Flavoring and Sweetening

  1. 4

    Add Sweetener

While the hibiscus tea is still warm, add 1 cup of sugar to the strained liquid. Stir well until the sugar is completely dissolved.

  2. 5

    Add Lime Juice

Stir in 1 cup of fresh lime juice to the sweetened hibiscus tea for a refreshing tang.

  3. 6

    Add Mint

Toss in 0.5 cups of fresh mint leaves and stir gently to combine. Let the drink cool to room temperature.

Serving

  1. 7

    Chill and Serve

Refrigerate the drink for at least 1 hour before serving. Serve over ice, garnished with additional mint leaves and lime slices if desired.
