Arepa Dough Preparation
- 3
Make the Dough
In a large mixing bowl, combine arepa flour and salt. Gradually add warm water while mixing with your hands until a dough forms. Knead the dough for a few minutes until it's smooth and pliable. Let it rest for about 5 minutes.
- 4
Shape the Arepas
Divide the dough into equal portions and shape each portion into a ball, then flatten it to form a disc about 1 inch thick.
Cooking the Arepas
- 5
Cook the Arepas
Heat a non-stick skillet or griddle over medium heat. Cook the arepas for about 5-7 minutes on each side or until they develop a golden-brown crust. You can also finish them in the oven at 375°F (190°C) for about 10 minutes for a softer texture.
- 6
Assemble the Camaron Arepa
Slice the cooked arepas open and fill them generously with the shrimp filling. Serve warm with extra cilantro or lime wedges on the side.
