Method

Dough Preparation

  1. 1

    Combine Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour and salt. Add the unsalted butter and mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

  2. 2

    Add Water

Gradually add water, mixing until a dough forms. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth.

  3. 3

    Rest the Dough

Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and let it rest in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes.

Filling Preparation

  1. 4

    Cook the Filling

In a skillet over medium heat, add ground beef, onion, garlic, and green bell pepper. Cook until the meat is browned and the vegetables are tender, about 5-7 minutes.

  2. 5

    Season the Filling

Stir in cumin, paprika, salt, and black pepper. Cook for an additional 2 minutes, then remove from heat and let cool.

Assembly and Cooking

  1. 6

    Roll out the Dough

On a floured surface, roll out the rested dough to about 1/8 inch thickness. Cut out two circles using a 6-inch round cutter.

  2. 7

    Fill the Empanadas

Place a spoonful of the cooled filling on one half of each dough circle. Be careful not to overfill.

  3. 8

    Seal the Empanadas

Fold the dough over the filling to form a half-moon shape. Press the edges to seal tightly, then crimp with a fork to ensure they are well sealed.

  4. 9

    Prepare for Baking

Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Place the empanadas on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

  5. 10

    Apply Egg Wash

Brush the tops of the empanadas with the beaten egg to give them a golden color when baked.

  6. 11

    Bake

Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown. Remove from oven and let cool slightly before serving.
