Method
Oyster Preparation
- 1
Shuck the Oysters
Using a proper oyster knife, carefully shuck each oyster by inserting the knife into the hinge and twisting to open. Remove the top shell and ensure the oyster is kept in its cup to retain the juices.
- 2
Arrange on a Platter
Place the freshly shucked oysters on a bed of crushed ice on a serving platter to keep them chilled and fresh.
Cocktail Sauce Preparation
- 3
Mix the Sauce
In a medium bowl, combine ketchup, horseradish, lemon juice, Worcestershire sauce, and hot sauce. Stir well until all ingredients are blended smoothly. Add salt to taste.
- 4
Serve the Sauce
Transfer the cocktail sauce to a small serving dish and place it alongside the oysters on the platter.
Garnishing
- 5
Prepare Lemon Wedges
Cut the lemon into wedges and arrange them around the oysters for garnish. These can be squeezed over the oysters for added flavor.
