Clean the Clams
Rinse the fresh clams under cold water to remove any sand or debris. In a pot, add the clams and cover with water. Bring to a boil, then cover and steam for 5-7 minutes until clams open. Discard any unopened clams.

Add Potatoes and Broth
Add the diced potatoes, chicken broth, thyme, bay leaf, and salt to the pot. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 15-20 minutes until potatoes are tender.

Incorporate Clams and Cream
Remove the bay leaf. Stir in the cooked clams and heavy cream. Allow to heat through for about 5 minutes.

Season to Taste
Add black pepper to taste. Adjust seasoning if necessary.

Ladle the clam chowder into bowls, garnish with fresh parsley, and serve with crackers on the side.
