Method

Cake Preparation

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large bowl, sift together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

  3. 3

    Mix Wet Ingredients

In another bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract until well combined.

  4. 4

    Combine Mixtures

Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined. Stir in the boiling water until the batter is smooth.

  5. 5

    Bake the Cake

Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

  6. 6

    Cool the Cakes

Remove the cakes from the oven and let them cool in the pans for 10 minutes. Then, remove from pans and allow to cool completely on wire racks.

Ganache Frosting Preparation

  1. 7

    Heat the Cream

In a small saucepan, heat the heavy cream over medium heat until it just begins to simmer.

  2. 8

    Combine with Chocolate

Remove the saucepan from heat and add the chocolate chips and butter. Let it sit for 5 minutes to melt.

  3. 9

    Stir the Ganache

Whisk the mixture until smooth and glossy. Allow it to cool slightly until it thickens to a spreadable consistency.

  4. 10

    Frost the Cake

Once the cakes are completely cool, place one layer on a serving plate, spread a layer of ganache on top, and then place the second layer on top. Frost the top and sides of the cake with the remaining ganache.
