Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Wash and Prepare Apples

Thoroughly wash the fresh apples under running water to remove any dirt or pesticides. Remove the stems and cut each apple into quarters, leaving the skin on.

  2. 2

    Combine Ingredients

In a large pot, combine the quartered apples and 2 cups of water. If desired, add 2 tablespoons of granulated sugar to sweeten the juice.

Cooking

  1. 3

    Simmer the Mixture

Place the pot over medium heat and bring the mixture to a gentle boil. Once boiling, reduce the heat and let it simmer for about 20-30 minutes, or until the apples are soft and mushy.

  2. 4

    Strain the Juice

Once the apples are soft, remove the pot from heat. Using a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth, strain the mixture into a large bowl or pitcher, pressing down on the apple pulp to extract as much juice as possible.

Serving

  1. 5

    Chill and Serve

Let the apple juice cool to room temperature. Once cooled, transfer the juice to a refrigerator to chill. Serve the apple juice in glasses, and enjoy it fresh or over ice.
