Preheat the Skillet
Place a 10-inch cast iron skillet in the oven and preheat to 450°F (232°C).

Mix Dry Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the cornmeal, flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.

Combine Mixtures
Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Do not overmix.

Prepare Skillet
Carefully remove the hot skillet from the oven and add a tablespoon of butter, swirling to coat the bottom.

Bake
Pour the batter into the hot skillet and return to the oven. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown and a toothpick comes out clean.

Cool and Serve
Allow the cornbread to cool in the skillet for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.
