Calamari Preparation

Prepare the Dry Mixture
In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, cornstarch, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Mix well to combine.

Coat the Calamari
Dip each calamari ring into the wet mixture, allowing any excess to drip off, then coat it in the dry mixture. Repeat until all calamari rings are coated.

Heat the Oil
In a large saucepan or deep fryer, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 375°F (190°C).

Fry the Calamari
Carefully add the coated calamari rings to the hot oil in batches. Fry for about 2-3 minutes or until golden brown and crispy.

Drain the Calamari
Using a slotted spoon, remove the fried calamari from the oil and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain any excess oil.

Combine Ingredients
Add the canned crushed tomatoes, dried oregano, dried basil, salt, and black pepper to the saucepan. Stir well to combine.

Simmer the Sauce
Simmer the sauce for about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it thickens slightly.

Cool the Sauce
Remove from heat and let it cool before serving alongside the fried calamari.
