Cake Ingredients

Method

Cake Preparation

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, sift together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

  3. 3

    Combine Wet Ingredients

In a separate bowl, beat the eggs and then add the milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract. Mix well until combined.

  4. 4

    Combine Mixtures

Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined.

  5. 5

    Add Boiling Water

Carefully stir in the boiling water to the batter. It will be thin, but this is normal.

  6. 6

    Bake the Cakes

Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cake pans. Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

  7. 7

    Cool the Cakes

Once baked, let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Frosting Preparation

  1. 8

    Prepare the Frosting

In a medium bowl, beat the unsalted butter until creamy. Gradually add the cocoa powder and powdered sugar, alternating with the milk. Mix until smooth and fluffy.

  2. 9

    Add Vanilla

Stir in the vanilla extract until well combined.

  3. 10

    Frost the Cake

Once the cakes are completely cool, place one layer on a serving plate and spread a layer of frosting on top. Place the second layer on top and frost the top and sides of the cake.
