Method
Preparing the Steak
- 1
Cook the Steak
In a skillet over medium-high heat, melt 2 tablespoons of unsalted butter. Season the sliced steak with salt and black pepper. Add the steak to the skillet and cook for about 3-4 minutes, stirring occasionally, until browned and cooked through. Remove from heat and set aside.
Making the Au Jus
- 2
Prepare the Au Jus
In a saucepan, combine 3 cups of beef broth, 1 tablespoon of Worcestershire sauce, 1 teaspoon of garlic powder, 1 teaspoon of onion powder, 1 teaspoon of salt, and 1 teaspoon of black pepper. Bring the mixture to a simmer over medium heat, stirring occasionally. Let it simmer for about 10 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
Assembling the Sandwich
- 3
Build the Sandwich
Slice the hoagie buns lengthwise without cutting all the way through. Place a portion of the cooked steak inside each bun and top with 2 slices of Swiss cheese. If desired, place the assembled sandwiches under a broiler for 1-2 minutes to melt the cheese.
- 4
Serve
