Method
Preparation of Chicken
- 1
Prepare the Chicken Breast
Season the chicken breast with salt and black pepper. If desired, pound the chicken to an even thickness for more uniform cooking.
- 2
Bread the Chicken
Set up a breading station with three bowls: one with all-purpose flour, one with the beaten egg, and one with breadcrumbs. Dredge the chicken breast in flour, dip it in egg, and coat it with breadcrumbs.
Cooking the Chicken
- 3
Cook the Chicken
Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the breaded chicken breast and cook for 5-7 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and cooked through (internal temperature should reach 165°F/74°C).
- 4
Add Ham and Cheese
In the last minute of cooking, add the slices of ham and Swiss cheese on top of the chicken breast. Cover the skillet with a lid to help melt the cheese.
Assembling the Sandwich
- 5
Prepare the Bread
Toast the slices of bread lightly, if desired. Spread mayonnaise on one side of each slice.
- 6
Build the Sandwich
Place the cooked chicken breast with melted cheese and ham onto one slice of bread. Top with lettuce and tomato slices, then cover with the second slice of bread. Cut in half if preferred.
