Onion Rings
Method
Preparation
- 1
Prepare the Onions
Peel the large onions and slice them into thick rings, about 1/2 inch in thickness. Separate the rings and set them aside.
- 2
Make the Beer Batter
In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, and black pepper. Whisk together until well mixed. Gradually add the Honeyweiss beer, stirring gently until the batter is smooth and free of lumps. The consistency should be thick enough to coat the onion rings.
Frying
- 3
Heat the Oil
In a deep frying pan or pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). You can test the oil by dropping a small amount of the batter into it; if it sizzles and rises to the surface, the oil is ready.

Drain and Serve
Using a slotted spoon, remove the fried onion rings from the oil and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil. Season with additional salt if desired and serve hot.
