Method

Cream Mixture Preparation

  1. 1

    Make the Cream Base

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the mascarpone cheese and granulated sugar until smooth.

  2. 2

    Incorporate Egg Yolks

Add the egg yolks to the mascarpone mixture and mix until fully combined.

  3. 3

    Whip the Cream

In a separate bowl, whip the heavy cream and vanilla extract until stiff peaks form.

  4. 4

    Combine Mixtures

Gently fold the whipped cream into the mascarpone mixture, being careful not to deflate the cream.

Coffee Mixture Preparation

  1. 5

    Prepare Coffee Mixture

In a bowl, combine the hot espresso or strong coffee with the coffee liqueur and the tablespoon of sugar. Stir until the sugar is dissolved.

Assembly

  1. 6

    Dip Ladyfingers

Quickly dip each ladyfinger into the coffee mixture, making sure not to soak them too long.

  2. 7

    Layering

In a rectangular or square dish, place a layer of dipped ladyfingers at the bottom. Spread half of the cream mixture on top.

  3. 8

    Repeat Layers

Add another layer of dipped ladyfingers followed by the remaining cream mixture.

  4. 9

    Chill

Cover and refrigerate the tiramisu for at least 4 hours, or preferably overnight, to allow the flavors to meld.

  5. 10

    Serve

Before serving, dust the top with cocoa powder and sprinkle with chocolate shavings if desired.
