Cream Mixture Preparation

Make the Cream Base
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the mascarpone cheese and granulated sugar until smooth.

Incorporate Egg Yolks
Add the egg yolks to the mascarpone mixture and mix until fully combined.

Whip the Cream
In a separate bowl, whip the heavy cream and vanilla extract until stiff peaks form.

Combine Mixtures
Gently fold the whipped cream into the mascarpone mixture, being careful not to deflate the cream.

Prepare Coffee Mixture
In a bowl, combine the hot espresso or strong coffee with the coffee liqueur and the tablespoon of sugar. Stir until the sugar is dissolved.
Assembly

Dip Ladyfingers
Quickly dip each ladyfinger into the coffee mixture, making sure not to soak them too long.

Layering
In a rectangular or square dish, place a layer of dipped ladyfingers at the bottom. Spread half of the cream mixture on top.

Repeat Layers
Add another layer of dipped ladyfingers followed by the remaining cream mixture.

Chill
Cover and refrigerate the tiramisu for at least 4 hours, or preferably overnight, to allow the flavors to meld.

Before serving, dust the top with cocoa powder and sprinkle with chocolate shavings if desired.
