Base Ingredients

Mascarpone Mixture

Method

Prepare Coffee

  1. 1

    Brew Espresso

Brew 1 cup of strong espresso coffee and allow it to cool. If using coffee liqueur, mix it into the espresso once cooled.

Prepare Mascarpone Mixture

  1. 2

    Separate Eggs

Separate the egg yolks from the whites, placing the yolks in one bowl and the whites in another.

  2. 3

    Whip Egg Yolks

Add the granulated sugar to the egg yolks and whisk until the mixture is pale and creamy, about 3-5 minutes.

  3. 4

    Incorporate Mascarpone

Add the mascarpone cheese and vanilla extract to the egg yolk mixture, and gently fold it in until smooth.

  4. 5

    Whip Cream

In a separate bowl, whip the heavy cream until stiff peaks form.

  5. 6

    Combine Mixtures

Gently fold the whipped cream into the mascarpone mixture until fully combined.

  6. 7

    Whip Egg Whites

In the bowl with the egg whites, beat until stiff peaks form. Then fold the egg whites into the mascarpone mixture gently.

Assemble Tiramisu

  1. 8

    Dip Ladyfingers

Quickly dip each ladyfinger into the cooled espresso (and liqueur, if using) on both sides, ensuring they do not become too soggy.

  2. 9

    Layer Ingredients

In a 9x13 inch dish, arrange a layer of dipped ladyfingers at the bottom. Spread half of the mascarpone mixture over the ladyfingers.

  3. 10

    Repeat Layers

Add another layer of dipped ladyfingers followed by the remaining mascarpone mixture on top.

  4. 11

    Chill Tiramisu

Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight.

Serve and Garnish

  1. 12

    Add Cocoa Powder

Before serving, dust the top of the tiramisu with cocoa powder and sprinkle with dark chocolate shavings.

  2. 13

    Slice and Serve

Slice the tiramisu into squares and serve chilled.
