Method

Pasta Preparation

  1. 1

    Cook the Pasta Shells

Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the jumbo pasta shells and cook according to package instructions until al dente, usually around 8-10 minutes. Drain and set aside to cool slightly.

Cheese Filling Preparation

  1. 2

    Mix the Cheese Filling

In a large mixing bowl, combine ricotta cheese, 1 cup of mozzarella cheese, 0.5 cup of Parmesan cheese, 1 egg, chopped fresh basil, salt, and black pepper. Mix thoroughly until all ingredients are well combined.

Sauce Preparation

  1. 3

    Prepare the Marinara Sauce

In a medium saucepan, heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil over medium heat. Add minced garlic and sauté for about 1-2 minutes until fragrant. Stir in the marinara sauce and red pepper flakes. Let it simmer for 10 minutes, then remove from heat.

Assembly

  1. 4

    Stuff the Shells

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Take the cooked pasta shells and stuff each one with the cheese filling using a spoon or piping bag.

  2. 5

    Arrange in Baking Dish

Spread a thin layer of the marinara sauce on the bottom of a 9x13 inch baking dish. Place the stuffed shells in the dish, and then pour the remaining marinara sauce over the top.

  3. 6

    Add Toppings

Sprinkle the remaining 0.5 cup of mozzarella cheese and 0.25 cup of Parmesan cheese over the stuffed shells.

Baking

  1. 7

    Bake the Stuffed Shells

Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.

Serving

  1. 8

    Serve Hot

Remove from the oven and let it sit for 5 minutes before serving. Garnish with extra basil if desired, and enjoy your stuffed shells!
