Method

Cooking the Pasta

  1. 1

    Boil the Spaghetti

In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil. Add the spaghetti and cook according to package instructions, usually about 8-10 minutes until al dente. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking.

  2. 2

    Drain the Spaghetti

Once cooked, drain the spaghetti in a colander and set aside. Do not rinse.

Making the Marinara Sauce

  1. 3

    Sauté Garlic

In a large saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant, being careful not to burn it.

  2. 4

    Add Tomatoes and Seasonings

Pour in the canned crushed tomatoes and stir in the dried oregano, dried basil, salt, and black pepper. Bring to a simmer.

  3. 5

    Simmer the Sauce

Reduce the heat to low and let the sauce simmer for about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally. Adjust seasoning if necessary.

Combine and Serve

  1. 6

    Combine Spaghetti and Sauce

Add the drained spaghetti to the saucepan with the marinara sauce. Toss gently to combine, ensuring the spaghetti is evenly coated with the sauce.

  2. 7

    Plate and Garnish

Divide the spaghetti into serving bowls. Garnish with fresh basil leaves and sprinkle with grated Parmesan cheese if desired. Serve hot.
