Method

Dough Preparation

  1. 1

    Cook the Potatoes

Boil the potatoes in a large pot of salted water until tender, about 15-20 minutes. Drain and let them cool slightly.

  2. 2

    Mash the Potatoes

Once the potatoes are cool enough to handle, peel them and mash them using a potato masher or ricer until smooth.

  3. 3

    Make the Dough

In a mixing bowl, combine the mashed potatoes, flour, egg, and salt. Mix until a dough forms. If the dough is too sticky, add a little more flour.

  4. 4

    Knead the Dough

On a floured surface, knead the dough gently for a minute until it is smooth. Be careful not to over-knead.

  5. 5

    Shape the Gnocchi

Divide the dough into four pieces. Roll each piece into a long rope about 1/2 inch thick. Cut the ropes into 1-inch pieces. Use a fork to create ridges on each piece for better sauce adherence.

Cooking the Gnocchi

  1. 6

    Boil the Gnocchi

Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Carefully add the gnocchi to the boiling water in batches. Cook until they float to the surface, about 2-3 minutes.

  2. 7

    Drain the Gnocchi

Using a slotted spoon, remove the gnocchi from the water and transfer them to a plate. Repeat with the remaining gnocchi.

Sauce Preparation

  1. 8

    Prepare the Sauce

In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add minced garlic and sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant.

  2. 9

    Combine Gnocchi and Sauce

Add the cooked gnocchi to the skillet with the sautéed garlic and butter. Toss to coat the gnocchi evenly.

  3. 10

    Finish the Dish

Add fresh basil, grated Parmesan cheese, salt, and black pepper to taste. Toss again until everything is well combined and heated through.
