Method

For the Mozzarella Sticks

  1. 1

    Prepare the Breading Station

Set up three shallow bowls: one with flour, one with beaten eggs, and one with a mixture of breadcrumbs, garlic powder, dried oregano, salt, and black pepper.

  2. 2

    Bread the Mozzarella Sticks

Dip each mozzarella stick first into the flour, shaking off excess, then into the eggs, and finally coat with the breadcrumb mixture. Place the breaded sticks on a plate.

  3. 3

    Chill the Cheese Sticks

Place the breaded mozzarella sticks in the freezer for at least 30 minutes to help them hold their shape during frying.

  4. 4

    Heat the Oil

In a deep pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

  5. 5

    Fry the Mozzarella Sticks

Fry the mozzarella sticks in batches for about 2-3 minutes or until golden brown. Use a slotted spoon to remove them and place them on a paper towel-lined plate.

For the Marinara Sauce

  1. 6

    Sauté the Garlic

In a saucepan, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add minced garlic cloves and sauté until fragrant, about 30 seconds.

  2. 7

    Add Tomatoes and Seasonings

Stir in the canned crushed tomatoes, dried basil, salt, black pepper, and sugar. Bring to a simmer.

  3. 8

    Simmer the Sauce

Reduce the heat to low and let the sauce simmer for about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally.

  4. 9

    Serve

Serve the deep-fried mozzarella sticks hot with the marinara sauce on the side for dipping.
