Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Slice the Steak

Thinly slice the ribeye or flank steak against the grain into strips. This will help to keep the meat tender.

  2. 2

    Prepare the Vegetables

Slice the green bell peppers, onion, and mushrooms into thin strips for even cooking.

Cooking

  1. 3

    Sauté the Vegetables

In a large skillet, heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil over medium heat. Add the bell peppers, onion, and mushrooms. Sauté until they are softened, about 5-7 minutes. Sprinkle with a pinch of salt and pepper, then remove from the skillet and set aside.

  2. 4

    Cook the Steak

In the same skillet, add the remaining tablespoon of olive oil. Increase the heat to medium-high. Add the sliced steak and season with salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Cook for about 3-5 minutes, or until the steak is browned and cooked to your desired doneness.

  3. 5

    Combine Ingredients

Return the sautéed vegetables to the skillet with the steak. Mix everything together and let it heat through for about 1-2 minutes.

  4. 6

    Melt the Cheese

Place slices of American cheese over the steak and vegetable mixture. Cover the skillet with a lid for 1-2 minutes to allow the cheese to melt.

Serving

  1. 7

    Assemble the Sandwiches

Slice the hoagie rolls open and fill them generously with the steak and cheese mixture. Serve hot, and enjoy your homemade Philly cheese steak!
