Pasta and Sauce

Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

  2. 2

    Cook the Ziti

In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil. Add the ziti pasta and cook according to package directions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

  3. 3

    Prepare the Marinara Sauce

In a skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add minced garlic cloves and sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant. Stir in the marinara sauce and let it simmer for 5 minutes.

Assembly

  1. 4

    Mix Ingredients

In a large bowl, combine cooked ziti, ricotta cheese, half of the grated Parmesan cheese, half of the mozzarella cheese, fresh basil, salt, black pepper, dried oregano, and crushed red pepper flakes. Mix well.

  2. 5

    Layer the Dish

In a greased 9x13 inch baking dish, spread a layer of marinara sauce on the bottom. Add half of the ziti mixture, then another layer of marinara sauce, followed by the remaining ziti mixture. Top with remaining marinara sauce and sprinkle with the rest of the mozzarella and Parmesan cheese.

Baking

  1. 6

    Bake the Ziti

Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes. Then remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.

  2. 7

    Rest and Serve

Once baked, remove the ziti from the oven and let it rest for 10 minutes before serving. Garnish with additional fresh basil if desired.
