Fried Gulf Oysters

Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Oysters

Rinse the Gulf oysters under cold water and pat them dry with paper towels.

  2. 2

    Breading Station

In one bowl, combine cornmeal, flour, salt, and black pepper. In another bowl, whisk together eggs and milk.

  3. 3

    Coat the Oysters

Dip each oyster first into the egg mixture, then dredge in the cornmeal mixture, ensuring they are well-coated.

  4. 4

    Fry the Oysters

In a deep frying pan, heat vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Fry the oysters in batches for about 2-3 minutes on each side until golden brown. Remove and drain on paper towels.

  5. 5

    Cook the Bacon

In a separate skillet, cook the applewood bacon until crispy. Remove and let drain on paper towels.

  6. 6

    Prepare Cheese Grits

Cook grits according to package instructions. Stir in cheddar cheese and cream until melted and smooth.

  7. 7

    Serve

Plate the fried oysters on a bed of cheese grits, top with crispy bacon, and serve with cream gravy and Ozark pepper jelly on the side.
