Method

Marinating the Steak

  1. 1

    Prepare the Marinade

In a bowl, combine soy sauce, olive oil, minced garlic, black pepper, red pepper flakes, and honey. Mix well.

  2. 2

    Marinate the Steak

Place the flank steak in a resealable plastic bag or a shallow dish. Pour the marinade over the steak, ensuring it is well coated. Seal the bag or cover the dish, and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, preferably overnight.

Cooking the Steak

  1. 3

    Preheat the Grill

Heat your grill or grill pan over medium-high heat.

  2. 4

    Grill the Steak

Remove the steak from the marinade and let excess marinade drip off. Place the steak on the grill and cook for about 5-7 minutes on each side for medium-rare, or until desired doneness is reached.

  3. 5

    Add Cheese

In the last minute of cooking, place slices of provolone cheese on top of the steak to melt.

Assembling the Sandwich

  1. 6

    Prepare Toppings

In a skillet, sauté onions and bell peppers until they are softened and caramelized. Season with salt to taste.

  2. 7

    Slice the Steak

Once the steak is cooked to your liking, remove it from the grill and let it rest for 5 minutes. Then, slice the steak thinly against the grain.

  3. 8

    Build the Sandwich

Slice the sub rolls in half. Layer the sliced steak, sautéed onions, and sautéed bell peppers on the bottom half of the roll. Sprinkle chopped parsley on top, then cover with the other half of the roll.
