Preparation Steps

  1. 1

    Prepare the Fish

In a bowl, whisk together the flour, cornmeal, salt, and pepper. In another bowl, beat the egg and mix with milk. Dip each fish fillet first into the egg mixture, then coat with the flour and cornmeal mixture.

  2. 2

    Fry the Fish

In a large skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Once hot, carefully place the coated fish fillets into the oil. Fry for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and cooked through. Remove from the skillet and let drain on paper towels.

  3. 3

    Assemble the Sandwich

Toast the hamburger buns lightly if desired. On the bottom half of each bun, place a lettuce leaf, followed by a fried fish fillet. Top with tomato slices, a generous dollop of tartar sauce, and a squeeze of lemon juice. Cover with the top half of the bun.

  4. 4

    Serve

Serve the sandwiches immediately with extra lemon wedges on the side.
