Baklava Ingredients

Method

Baklava Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Phyllo

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Melt the butter in a saucepan over low heat. Unroll the phyllo dough and cover it with a damp cloth to prevent it from drying out.

  2. 2

    Layer the Phyllo

Brush a 9x13 inch baking dish with melted butter. Lay one sheet of phyllo dough in the dish, brushing it with more melted butter. Repeat this process, layering 8 sheets, brushing each with butter.

  3. 3

    Add the Filling

In a bowl, mix the chopped walnuts, sugar, and ground cinnamon. Spread half of the walnut mixture over the phyllo layers.

  4. 4

    Layer More Phyllo

Continue layering another 6 sheets of phyllo, brushing each with butter. Spread the remaining walnut mixture over the phyllo, followed by another 8 sheets of phyllo, brushing each with butter.

  5. 5

    Cut and Bake

Using a sharp knife, cut the baklava into diamond or square shapes. Bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes, or until golden brown.

  6. 6

    Make the Syrup

In a saucepan, combine honey, water, and sugar. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and let it simmer for 10-15 minutes. Remove from heat and let it cool.

  7. 7

    Combine and Serve

Once the baklava is done baking, remove it from the oven and immediately pour the cooled syrup over the hot baklava. Allow it to soak for several hours or overnight before serving.
