Pasta Preparation
- 1
Cook the Pasta
Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add elbow macaroni and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
Chicken Preparation
- 2
Prepare the Chicken
Set up a breading station with three shallow bowls: one with flour, one with beaten eggs, and one with breadcrumbs mixed with salt and pepper. Dip each chicken breast in flour, then egg, and finally breadcrumbs.
- 3
Fry the Chicken
In a large skillet, heat vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Fry each breaded chicken breast until golden brown and cooked through, about 5-7 minutes per side. Remove and drain on paper towels.
Cheese Sauce
- 4
Make the Cheese Sauce
In a saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Whisk in flour and cook for 1 minute. Gradually add milk, whisking constantly until smooth. Stir in gouda cheese, garlic powder, onion powder, and salt until melted and creamy.
Assembly
- 5
Combine and Serve
In a large mixing bowl, combine cooked macaroni with cheese sauce. Slice the fried chicken and place on top of the mac and cheese. Sprinkle with crispy fried onions and drizzle with wavy sauce before serving.
