Preparation
1. Prepare the Rice
Rinse the basmati rice under cold water until the water runs clear. Soak it in water for about 30 minutes, then drain.
3. Prepare the Chicken
Cut the chicken breast into bite-sized pieces and marinate with salt, turmeric, and red chili powder for about 15 minutes.
Cooking
4. Sauté the Aromatics
In a large pot, heat 2 tablespoons of oil over medium heat. Add cumin seeds and let them sizzle for a few seconds. Then add the chopped onion and sauté until golden brown.
5. Cook the Chicken
Add the marinated chicken to the pot and cook until it's no longer pink, about 5-7 minutes.
6. Add Vegetables and Spices
Stir in the chopped tomatoes, green bell pepper, garlic, ginger, turmeric, and garam masala. Cook for another 5 minutes until the vegetables soften.
7. Cook the Rice
Add the soaked and drained rice to the pot, along with 4 cups of water and salt to taste. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat to low. Cover and simmer for 15-20 minutes until the rice is cooked and has absorbed all the liquid.
